What is the difference between the Web, Desktop & Hosted? click here - Basically Hosted means data that is entered on one computer is available instantly on your your other computers the instant you have an internet connection, just like the web based system.( BTW Top Producer is not a web based system. It is a Java application that uses a web browser. Even Top Producer requires you to download the application to your computer)Hosted is what most people think of as Web based but the web itself is limited in terms of it's functionality. For instance, simple tasks like resize of a frame is very complicated for the web. Or drag and drop. And as to speed...well forget about it, the web is subject to all sorts of limitations. Web based applications are easier to develop but lack the functionality of true client server applications.

Web applications, though easy to develop, can not provide the functionality and customizability inherent with client-server architecture. Further, these web providers use standard web development tools rather than lower-level development languages, which result in limited performance that could only be improved with more extensive server hardware.
